Buying preloved midi dresses

What turns up on the rail

Midi is a length rather than a look, so the mix is broad. High street labels like Shein, Shein Curve, Boohoo and TU come through regularly, alongside EAST, Great Plains, SALOOS and Myleene Klass. Sizes usually run across UK 8 to 26, with plus sizes appearing as often as smaller ones. Condition is honest and mostly high: nearly all midis are graded Very good, with the occasional piece still New with tags.

  • Prints lean towards florals, abstract designs and animal print
  • Styles include summer and holiday dresses, easy day dresses, sleeveless and v-neck shapes
  • Smarter midis appear too, so it is worth checking occasion dresses alongside this page

What to check before you buy

Length is the thing people get wrong with midis. A dress described as midi on one woman can sit mid-calf on another, which changes the whole balance of the outfit. Work out where you want the hem to land, then check the front length measurement rather than trusting the label.

  • Ask for the front length from shoulder to hem, plus bust, waist and hip flat measurements. We will send them for any item before you buy.
  • Check the waist position in the photos. A dress with a fixed seamed waist needs to hit your natural waist, while an elasticated or tie waist gives you room to move it.
  • Look at the zip and any hook and eye at the top. These take the most strain on a fitted midi.
  • On sleeveless styles, check the armhole and any lining, as those areas see the most wear.
  • Wrap and button-through midis rely on the fastenings sitting flat. Check button spacing across the bust if you are between sizes.

Why buy midis preloved

Midi dresses are often bought for one holiday or one summer, so they come back into circulation with plenty of life left. That is why the grading here skews high. Buying preloved also lets you try a length and a shape without much risk, and it keeps a perfectly good dress out of a bin bag.

Because each dress is one of one, the range is wider than a shop that stocks the same style in eight sizes. You get a genuine spread of cuts, prints and labels sitting side by side. Orders go out within 2 working days with tracked UK delivery, standard delivery is free over £50, and you have 14 days to return anything for any reason.

Common questions

How long is a midi dress?

As a rule the hem sits between the knee and the ankle, usually somewhere around mid-calf. Because that depends on your height, we list or supply the front length in centimetres for each dress. If you are under about 5ft 3in, a midi on the shorter end of the range often reads as a longer dress on you.

Do you have midi dresses in plus sizes?

Yes. The rail regularly runs up to UK 26, and labels such as Shein Curve turn up specifically in the larger sizes. Use the size filter on the collection page to see what is currently available in your size.

Are secondhand dresses cleaned before they are sent?

Every item is checked and prepared before it goes on the site, and anything that does not meet our standard is not listed. We still suggest a wash or press once it arrives, as dresses can crease in transit. Fold lines from packing are normal and drop out quickly.

Should I trust the size on the label?

Not entirely, and this is worth saying plainly. Sizing varies a lot between brands, older pieces from labels like EAST or Great Plains can run differently to current high street sizing, and some dresses have been altered by a previous owner. Ask us for flat measurements before you order rather than going by the label alone.

Can I return a midi dress if the length does not suit me?

Yes. You have 14 days to return any item for any reason, and 30 days if something is faulty or not as described. Returns are easier all round if you check the length measurement with us first, since we only have one of each dress.

What if I cannot see the midi dress I want?

New pieces go live most days, so the rail looks different week to week. Tell us the size, colour or length you are after through the contact form and we will keep an eye out as stock comes in.
