What turns up on the rail

The polka dot rail leans towards high street names. Marks & Spencer, Primark, George and F&F appear regularly, alongside River Island, Izabel London and the occasional Country or Market label. Sizing usually runs from UK 4 up to UK 22, though not in every style at once, so it pays to check back.

What to check on preloved polka dot pieces

Printed dots and woven dots behave differently, so it's worth knowing which you're getting. Printed spots on viscose or polyester can soften and blur slightly after many washes, particularly at cuffs and collars where fabric rubs. Dobby and woven spot fabrics keep their definition longer but can snag.

  • Look at the photos of underarms and side seams: pale ground fabrics show marks first, and we note anything visible in the grading
  • On blouses, check the button placket and any keyhole or tie neck fastening
  • Puff sleeves rely on elastic or gathered seams, so ask if you want to know how much stretch is left
  • Semi-sheer white or cream grounds may need a slip underneath, which is normal rather than a fault
  • Measurements of any item are available on request before you buy, which beats guessing from a size label

Everything goes out with tracked UK delivery and is dispatched within two working days. Standard delivery is free once you spend over £50. If it isn't right, you have 14 days to return it for any reason, and 30 days if something is faulty or not as described. Common questions

Are the polka dot items all black and white?

No. Monochrome spots are the most common, but coloured grounds and tonal dots come through too, including navy, red and pastel bases. Each listing shows the real colours under consistent lighting, and we describe the dot scale where it matters, since small pin spots read very differently to large coin-sized ones.

How does a Very good grade differ from Good?

Very good means light use with no faults we can see: the print is crisp and the seams are sound. Good means it is perfectly wearable but has a visible sign of wear, such as slight bobbling or a small mark, which we photograph and describe. Most of the polka dot rail sits at Very good, with a handful graded Good.

Will an older polka dot dress fit like a modern size?

Often not. Sizing on older high street pieces can run noticeably smaller than the same number today, especially through the bust and upper arm on fitted 1980s and 1990s styles. Ask for the flat measurements before you commit and compare them against a garment you already own, because a one-of-a-kind piece cannot be swapped for a different size.

Can I wash printed polka dot fabric normally?

Follow the care label where it survives; where it doesn't, a cool wash inside out is the safest route for printed viscose and polyester. Turning the garment inside out reduces surface rubbing, which is what dulls printed spots over time. Line drying rather than tumbling also helps keep the print sharp.

Do you get polka dot skirts and trousers as well as dresses and tops?

Dresses and blouses dominate, since that is where the print sells best on the high street. Spotted skirts and separates do appear now and then, though less often. If you are hunting a specific shape, it is worth checking the collection weekly rather than monthly.
