The mix leans towards familiar high street occasion labels. Lipsy and ROMAN appear regularly, alongside New Look, Apricot, Myleene Klass, Debenhams and both Shein and Shein Curve. Lengths vary from mini and knee length through to full maxi, with plenty of sleeveless summer styles and a smaller number of long sleeve options for cooler months. Florals dominate, followed by animal print and polka dot.

What to check before you buy

Occasion dresses tend to have been worn once or twice, which is why so many arrive in strong condition. Even so, they carry more construction than a jersey day dress, so there is more to look at.

  • Zips and hook-and-eye fastenings. Long invisible back zips take the most strain. Ours are checked and run, but ask if you want a close photo.
  • Linings and boning. Structured bodices can pull at the seams. A lining that sits shorter than the outer layer is normal, not a fault.
  • Hems on maxi styles. Longer skirts pick up heel marks. Any wear that matters is written into the description and reflected in the grade.
  • Straps and shoulder seams. Sleeveless styles stretch here first, particularly in lighter woven fabrics.
  • Fit across the bust and waist. Occasion sizing varies a lot between brands. Measurements of any item are available on request before you buy, and it is worth asking.

Why buy an occasion dress preloved

Occasion dresses are the clearest case for buying second hand. Most are bought for one date in the diary, worn for a few hours and then put away. Buying preloved puts that dress back into use instead of leaving it hanging, and it means you can pick something you genuinely like rather than settling for whatever is in the shops that month.

Common questions

Will I turn up in the same dress as someone else?

Very unlikely. Every dress here is a single item, so once it sells that exact piece is gone from the site. If you want to be extra careful, tell us the venue or event type in the contact form and we can suggest something less mainstream than the big high street labels.

What does "Very good" actually mean?

It means the dress has been worn but shows no faults that affect how it looks on. Most of our occasion dresses fall into this grade because they were bought for one event. Anything with a mark, a pull or a repair is graded lower and photographed close up so you can judge it yourself.

Do the sizes match modern high street sizing?

Not always, and this is worth knowing before you order. Occasion dresses are often cut closer than day dresses, and older stock or fitted bodice styles can come up a size smaller than the label suggests. We measure garments flat across bust, waist and length, and we would rather send you those numbers first than have the dress come back.

How should I care for a dress with beading or delicate fabric?

Hand wash cool or use a specialist dry cleaner, and never wring embellished fabric. We list the care label wording in the description where the label is still present. If the label has been cut out, ask us and we will describe the fabric handle as best we can.

Can I return a dress if it does not suit me on the day?

Yes. You have 14 days to return for any reason, and 30 days if something is faulty or not as described. Returns need the item unworn beyond trying on, so please keep any tags attached until you have decided, particularly on our New with tags pieces.

There is nothing here in my size or colour. What now?

New pieces go live most days, so it is worth checking back through the week. You can also send us a note through the contact form with your size, the length you want and the date of your event, and we will flag anything suitable as it comes in.
