Collection: Women's dresses

Every dress here is a single piece, bought once, checked over and photographed as it really looks. The rail runs from UK 4 to 30, with high street names like New Look, H&M, Next and ROMAN turning up most often. Some arrive new with tags, most sit at very good. Summer dresses, day dresses, minis and maxis all mix in together, so it is worth a scroll rather than a quick look.

Buying preloved dresses at ReTreasure

What turns up on the rail

The bulk of what we take in is familiar high street: New Look, H&M, Primark, Apricot, Shein, Next, ROMAN and TU. Sizes span UK 4 to 30, though the middle of that range fills up fastest, so smaller and larger sizes are worth checking often. Prints lean floral, with abstract, leopard and other animal markings, stripes and polka dot close behind.

What to check on a preloved dress

Dresses take more strain than most garments, so a few spots repay attention. Read the grade first, then look at the photos with these in mind.

  • Underarms and side seams. These are where wear and marking show first. We flag anything visible in the description.
  • Zips and hook fastenings. Back zips on fitted and occasion styles get the most use. We test them, but check the photos to see how the closure sits.
  • Hems on maxi lengths. Longer skirts catch underfoot. A dropped or repaired hem is noted in the grade.
  • Lining and stretch. Jersey day dresses can relax over time, so measurements matter more than the label size.
  • Size across brands. A 14 from one high street label is rarely a 14 in another. Ask us for the measurements before you buy, on any piece.

Why buy dresses secondhand

Dresses are the garment most likely to be worn a handful of times and then hung up for good. Holiday dresses, wedding guest dresses and party pieces come to us barely used, which is why so much of the rail grades very good or new with tags. Buying one of those keeps a perfectly good dress in circulation and out of a bin bag.

It also means you find things that are no longer in the shops. Past seasons, discontinued prints, brands you liked years ago. Because each dress is one of one, once it goes it is gone, so if something fits the occasion it is worth acting on. Standard UK delivery is tracked, free over £50, and we dispatch within 2 working days. If it does not work when it arrives, you have 14 days to return it for any reason.

Common questions

How do I know a dress will fit?

Label sizes vary a lot between the high street brands we stock, so we measure on request before you buy. Ask for chest, waist and length and compare against a dress you already own and like the fit of. It takes a few minutes and saves a return.

What do the condition grades mean?

We use five steps: New with tags, Like new, Very good, Good and Fair. Most dresses on the rail sit at very good, meaning light wear with nothing you would notice worn. Good and fair pieces are rarer and always carry a written note of the specific flaw, whether that is a small mark, a pull or a shortened hem.

Are the photos of the actual dress I will receive?

Yes. Every dress is photographed as it arrives with us, on the day, with no stock images and no borrowed shots. If a print sits slightly off centre or a hem hangs a little unevenly, you will see it in the pictures.

Can I wear a preloved dress to a wedding?

Plenty of our occasionwear comes in worn once or still tagged, which suits a wedding well. Be honest with yourself about the timeline though: order well ahead so there is room to return and try something else, because each dress is a single piece and we cannot send a different size.

Do sequinned or embellished dresses need special care?

Yes, and this is worth knowing before you buy rather than after. Sequins, beading and delicate embellishment should be hand washed cool or dry cleaned, never put through a machine, and dried flat away from radiators. If a care label is missing we will tell you so in the listing.

Nothing on the rail is right for me today, what next?

New dresses go live most days, so the rail today is not the rail next week. Tell us what you are after through the contact form, including size, length and occasion, and we will keep an eye out as stock comes in.
