What to check before you buy

Summer dresses live hard lives. They get worn in heat, packed badly and washed often, so a few things are worth a look on the photos before you commit.

  • Lining and thin fabric. Light cottons and viscose can go slightly sheer with wear. Ask if you want to know how much a skirt shows in daylight.
  • Straps and shoulders. Sleeveless styles take the strain at the shoulder seam and on any adjustable strap. Elastic can lose its stretch before the fabric wears out.
  • Zips, ties and shirring. Check side zips run smoothly and that waist ties are both present. Shirred backs relax over time, which changes the fit more than the label suggests.
  • Print alignment and fading. Older florals sometimes fade unevenly at the shoulders where the sun hits. Our photos show the actual garment, so what you see is what arrives.
  • Length and drop. Mini and maxi mean different things at different brands. Measurements of any dress are available on request before you buy.

How do you decide what counts as a summer dress?

We go by fabric weight, sleeve and length rather than the season on the label. Light cottons, viscose and unlined pieces in short-sleeve, sleeveless or strappy cuts all land here, alongside longer floaty styles. Some dresses appear in more than one collection if they fit both.

Will the size on the label match my usual size?

Not always, and it's worth being honest about that. Sizing varies a lot between H&M, Primark, ROMAN, Shein and Marks & Spencer, and older pieces often run smaller than current equivalents. Message us for the flat measurements of any dress before you buy, since a one-of-a-kind item can't be swapped for a different size.

How should I wash a preloved summer dress?

Check the care label first if it's still in the dress, and we'll tell you what it says if you ask. As a rule, cool wash and line dry keeps light cotton and viscose prints looking their best, and viscose in particular can shrink slightly in a warm machine. Ironing on a low setting inside out protects printed surfaces.

What if it doesn't suit me when it arrives?

You have 14 days to return anything for any reason, and 30 days if something is faulty or not as described. Items go out with tracked UK delivery so you can see where your parcel is. Just keep it in the condition it arrived in.

Are the photos of the actual dress?

Yes. Every piece is photographed individually because there is only one of each, so nothing is a stock image or a lookalike. Orders are dispatched within 2 working days, and standard delivery is free once your basket passes £50.
