What turns up on the rail
The mix leans high street. Marks & Spencer, New Look, Primark, Next, F&F, Topshop, Boohoo and Shein Curve all appear regularly, which means a wide spread of cuts and sizes rather than one narrow house fit. Sizing typically runs from UK 4 up to UK 30, so plus size and petite shoppers usually have something to look at alongside the mid range.
- Denim in straight, wide leg and high waist cuts
- Elasticated waist trousers for everyday and travel
- Summer and holiday styles, including shorts
- Patterns such as striped, floral, polka dot, animal print and abstract
Tailored and smarter pairs often sit well with the rest of the workwear rail, while low slung denim and bold prints tend to appeal to anyone shopping Y2K. If you would rather browse the lot in one go, start with women's clothing.
What to check before you buy
Trousers and jeans take more wear than most garments, so the detail matters more than the label.
- Waist versus hip. Sizing varies hugely between high street brands and between years. Ask for measurements before buying rather than going by the size on the label.
- Rise. High waist, mid and low rise all sit differently on the same body. The front rise measurement tells you far more than the style name.
- Inside leg. Check it against a pair you already own. Wide leg trousers in particular look wrong if the length is off, and they are harder to shorten neatly than a straight leg.
- Stretch. Denim with elastane relaxes through the day; rigid denim does not. If you are between sizes, that difference decides which way you go.
- Grading. Most pairs here sit at Very good, with some Good, a few New with tags and the occasional Like new. The grade is written against what we found on that exact pair, and the photos are of the item you will receive.
Why buy trousers preloved
Fit is the whole battle with trousers, and buying preloved lets you try cuts you would not otherwise risk. A wide leg pair from one brand and a high waist pair from another cost less to experiment with second hand, and discontinued cuts from Topshop or older Marks & Spencer lines often fit better than anything currently on the shelves. Jeans also soften with wear, so a preloved pair usually arrives past the stiff stage. Everything is sent with tracked UK delivery, dispatch is within 2 working days, standard delivery is free over £50, and there are 14 days to return anything for any reason.
