Collection: ROMAN

Roman is a familiar name on the UK high street, known for easy-wearing dresses and smart separates aimed at women who want covered-up shapes and print. The preloved Roman rail at ReTreasure usually leans towards dresses, with shirts, blouses, tops and trousers alongside them. Expect florals, abstract prints and the odd animal print, in sizes from UK 8 to 22. Every piece is checked, graded and photographed here.

Buying preloved Roman

What turns up on the rail

Dresses do most of the work in this brand. Maxi lengths, sleeveless summer styles and occasion pieces come through regularly, often in floral or abstract prints. Alongside them sit shirts and blouses that suit an office, plus trousers cut for everyday wear rather than fashion shapes. Sizes typically run across UK 8 to 22, so the rail covers a wider spread than many high street labels we handle.

Sizing and fit notes

Roman generally sits close to standard UK sizing, and in our experience the fit is on the generous side rather than tight. Dresses often have a defined waist with a fuller skirt, so the waist measurement matters more than the label. Sleeve length and hem length can vary a fair bit between styles, and older pieces do not always match current sizing, so treat the number on the label as a starting point.

Occasion dresses in particular can be cut with a bit of ease through the body, while shirts and blouses are usually closer fitting at the shoulder. If you are between sizes, or shopping for a specific length, message us. We measure chest, waist, hips, length and sleeve on request for any individual item before you buy, and we would rather do that than have something arrive wrong.

Why buy Roman preloved

Roman clothes are made to be worn often, and that shows. The pieces that come to us have usually held their shape and colour well, which is why the current Roman rail is graded very good across the board. Buying secondhand also gets you prints and shapes that have already sold out in store, including occasion dresses that were only ever worn once or twice.

There is a practical side too. Roman covers a size range that many labels skip, so preloved is often the easiest way to find a UK 20 or 22 dress in a print you actually like. Each item here is one of a kind, photographed as it is, with any wear noted in the description. Nothing is airbrushed and nothing is described as perfect when it is not.

Common questions

Is Roman sizing the same as other UK high street brands?

It is close, but Roman tends to be a touch roomier through the body than fast fashion labels. Many of their dresses also sit longer on the leg, which suits taller wearers or anyone who prefers a below-knee hem. Always check the measurements we list rather than relying on the size label alone.

What condition are the Roman pieces in?

At the moment every Roman item on the rail is graded very good, meaning light signs of wear at most and no faults that affect how the garment wears. We photograph any bobbling, faded seams or missing spare buttons and mention them in the description. If a piece has a mark we cannot shift, it is downgraded to good or fair and priced accordingly.

Are Roman dresses suitable for a wedding or event?

Plenty of them are. Occasionwear is one of the styles that comes through most often, usually in maxi lengths and printed fabrics. Bear in mind that most of these are polyester-based rather than silk or linen, so they hold a crease less but can feel warm on a hot day.

Is there any reason not to buy this brand preloved?

Honestly, yes for some people. Roman prints are often seasonal, so a specific floral you saw last summer may never appear here, and the label is not the place to look if you want cropped, oversized or very modern cuts. If you want a particular shape in a particular size, it can take a few visits to find it.

What if I cannot find the Roman piece I am after?

Get in touch and tell us the size, style and length you want, and we will keep an eye out as stock comes in. Fresh pieces are added most days across all brands, so the Roman selection changes week to week. It is also worth checking the wider dresses and blouses collections, since similar shapes turn up under other high street labels.
